EMS Blog Entry # 8

Good afternoon!

"The Truman Show" is a Hollywood film which chronicles the creation, production, and comodification of a person's life, via a reality TV show. According to Christof, the show's creator, it is the first of it's kind- one which has followed a person (Truman Burbank)'s entire life from the day he was born.

What I would like you to explore today, in a well-structured, 4-5 paragraph essay-style response (intro, body paragraphs, conclusion) is the following:

"Was the life that Truman Burbank lived in the town of Seahaven a 'real' life? "

Consider both sides of the issue (i.e. it WAS real, despite it all being set-up because it was real to HIM, vs. it was NOT real, BECAUSE it was all set up and contrived) and come to a conclusion by the end of your response.

This particular entry will be graded on your ability to critically analyze a film we have watched in class, from ALL sides of the issue, as well as whether or not you can persuade your audience (i.e. your teacher) of your viewpoint. AVOID using first person (ie. -"I") and adopt a formal, analytical tone in your writing. Spelling and grammar WILL be a part of your mark for this assignment.

Happy Blogging!
